Advice on Tennis Strings

TENNIS STRINGS EXPLAINED – (Performance Price Range)

Babolat Natural Gut [there is nothing like gut for feel but beware of the damp]
Babolat Hurricane [Hard and durable, best at lower tension]
Babolat Xcel [ top power string with feel]
Wilson NXT Sensation Tour [top power string with feel, similar feel to natural gut]
Pro's Pro Hi-Tec Multifibre [very good value entry level multifilament performance string, bigger brands more
durable and higher in quality though)
Wilson Sensation [very good quality performance multifilament from a big name]

STRINGS EXPLAINED – ( Club Play Price Range )

Hybrid strings offer excellent durability but still provide nice feel and power, not as much as performance
multifilaments but they last a lot longer
Prince Duraflex [good feel & power but strings can move a bit if you use lots of topspin. fairly durable, slightly
rough coating]

STRINGS EXPLAINED – ( Budget Price Range )

Budget synthetic strings usually last longer than the Club Play and Performance Strings but they don’t offer as much feel or power.

Hybrid Stringing
Hybrid strings are a popular choice nowadays. A polyester is recommended for the vertical strings to add increased durability and it reduces irritating string movement. Polys don’t have any filaments/strands so their feel and power when used in a hybrid with a softer sensitive string is not quite as good as either a synthetic string alone or a softer, sensitive performance multifilament alone.

The horizontal strings are the ‘feel’ strings which you choose depending on your preferred type of main string.

You lose some of the feel with hybrid stringing but the strings do last quite a bit longer and the irritating string movement which topspin players get is reduced. Hybrid stringing is especially recommended and useful for heavy topspinners who break strings too often for their liking or bank balance.
